Social Responsibility

What is social responsibility?

More and more organizations consider the interests of society by taking responsibility for the impact of their activities on customers, employees, shareholders, communities and the environment in all aspects of their operations.

In a nutshell, corporate social responsibility has three purposes: firstly, making products or offering services which are not polluting the environment; respecting the laws of non-discrimination on the basis of gender, race, age, religion, color, handicap, origin; and finally, treating employees as valuable assets. In social responsible companies HR policies reflect a focus on talent and the encouragement to develop it over the years.

Nowadays, almost everything is printed: emails, documents, reports… All this paper has disadvantages which surpass a mere higher cost for the company: deforestation, erosion, flooding, loss of biodiversity, climate change, pollution by the paper industry… At Cross, we reduce this by only printing things which are necessary and by re-using paper as scrap paper.

Secondly, we stimulate our employees to cycle to work, make use of public transport or to carpool. By doing so, the emission of CO2 is reduced and fewer cars are making use of the public road network.

Thirdly, Cross International is committed not to offer any services to non-ethical companies: promoting unconstructive employee relations, racial and sexual inequalities, being involved in the weapons industry, or in violations against human rights, refusing to control pollution.

Last but not least, each year Cross raises funds for charity projects or offers pro-bono services to NGOs.

For the Vlaamse Vereniging Autisme, a sporting event was organised. Contacts sponsored employees and friends of Cross International who ran the 20 kilometres of Brussels. Our IT responsible also developed their website. If you want to know more about the VVA, please visit them at http://www.autismevlaanderen.be/. In 2008, for the 15km of Maastricht,  Cross also sponsored a Dutch organisation called Fitkids.

Cross’s consultants teamed up with Broederlijk Delen to help them out in the selection of volunteers for their partners projects in Asia and Africa. It was a win-win situation: Cross sharing their recruitment knowledge with the NGO and Broederlijk Delen offering a chance to our younger consultants to have a first experience in interviewing.

To conclude, Cross International also sponsors Artsen zonder Grenzen by donating monthly 10 €.
